Senate Rejects EFCC, ICPC Nominees — Leadership Newspaper

The Senate session was thrown into a rowdy session yesterday as lawmakers rejected the nomination of candidates for appointments as members of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) by President Muhammadu Buhari.

There are 2 forms of Leadership. The first, and by far the most effective, is LEADERSHIP BY CONSENT of, and with the sympathy of the followers. The second is LEADERSHIP BY FORCE, without the consent and sympathy of the followers.

History is filled with evidences that Leadership by Force cannot endure. The downfall and disappearance of “Dictators” and kings is significant. It means that people will not follow forced leadership indefinitely.

The world has just entered a new era of relationship between leaders and followers, which very clearly calls for new leaders, and a new brand of leadership in business and industry. Those who belong to the old school of leadership-by-force, must acquire an understanding of the new brand of leadership (cooperation) or be relegated to the rank and file of the followers. There is no other way out for them.

1. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has urged his supporters to ensure peaceful campaigns for the 2019 elections in the state.

Governor Ortom stated that as those who currently possess the people’s mandate, they should handle it with care and not allow political opponents distract them.

While the PDP accused the Federal Government and the APC of politicising the programme, the state’s opposition party denied the allegation.

Kwara PDP spokesperson Tunde Ashaolu said: “The purported launching of the scheme on Friday in Ilorin by Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was nothing but a political jamboree.”

Chelsea May not listen to offers below £12M for Victor Moses

EPL giants Chelsea Football Club has placed a price tag of £12m on former Wigan Athletic and Super Eagles’ winger Moses victor.

Mailonline confirmed earlier that another English club Crystal Palace, alongside Fulham, are showing interested in signing Victor Moses from the club. 

It could be recalled the 27-year-old has struggled for game time under the head coach Maurizio Sarri this season, making only six appearances for the west London side. 

Moses who has so fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge after playing as a regular 11 under former manager Antonio Conte. 

It could be recalled Moses played in 40 matches as Chelsea lifted the Premier League title in the 2016-17 campaign, while he made 38 appearances last season.

Nigeria Court Affirms Prisoners’ Right To Vote

The Court of Appeal Benin Division on Friday granted the prayers of five prisoners, seeking the order of the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to include all prisoners in the voter’s register.

Justice S. Oseji, delivered the lead judgment, on behalf of Justice Helen Ogunwumiju.

The appeal was filed by five inmates, on behalf of other inmates in the Nigerian prisons.

Those that filed the appeal are Victor Emenuwe, Onome Inaye, Kabiru Abu, Osagie Iyekekpolor and Modugu Odion.

The judgment affirmed the judgment granted by a Federal High Court in 2014, that prisoners can vote.

However, Oseji did not grant a declaration that INEC liaise with the Nigeria Prison Service to create a registration centre at various prisons across the country.

Speaking to newsmen after the judgment, Counsel to the appellant, President Aigbokhan of the Initiative for Rural Development, Information and Legal Advocacy (IRDILA), urged INEC to commence immediate registration of inmates across the country for them to participate in next year’s election.

Aigbokhan said they would appeal some aspects of the decision of the Court of Appeal.

According to him, “Prison inmates have their community. Polling units should be located there.

2019: I Was Unable To Pick APC’s Nomination Form, Buhari’s Opponent Cries Out

Adamu Garba, one of the Presidential Aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has lamented that he could not pick the party’s nomination form.
In series of tweets on Tuesday, he accused the leadership of the party from sidelining him and other youths from participating with exorbitant form fee.
Garba is one of the presidential aspirants expected to contest in the APC’s presidential direct primary election against incumbent President Mhhammadu Buhari.
